Why a Year Needs Only Five Pages
Page 1: the map, not the territory
A year-at-a-glance page is not for planning — it is for orientation. Circle birthdays, shade school holidays, mark the vacation you already booked. When a month page asks “when?”, the year page answers “where does this week sit in the bigger picture?”. Keep it as the first page of your planner, before January, so every flip to a new month passes the overview and quietly re-anchors you.
Pages 2–5: the quarterly reset ritual
Annual goals fail quietly; quarterly goals fail loudly and early — which is exactly what you want. Each review sheet has four prompts: goals for the quarter, wins and achievements, lessons learned, and focus for the next quarter. Schedule twenty minutes at the end of March, June, September and December. Write wins first — momentum matters more than accuracy — then let the lessons section tell you which goal to carry forward, which to shrink, and which to drop without ceremony.
Print the set once, reuse it for years
Switch to undated mode and this becomes a perpetual kit: one overview grid and four review pages that work for any year you will ever live through. Print on 120gsm paper so the pages survive twelve months of flipping, and if your binder is disc-bound, remember the mushroom punch — the marks along the left edge match your disc count automatically when you pick a Happy Planner size above.
